Music, entertainment, cotton candy, popcorn, and a huge birthday cake, marked the 12 Birthday of Radio Lollipop at Nicklaus Children's Hospital, formerly Miami Children's Hospital.
A special appearance by popular local disc jockey, DJ Laz, spearheaded the celebration. The return of Radio Lollipop Idol showcased the talents of our Nicklaus Children's Hospital patients.
Radio Lollipop volunteers worked ceaselessly to make the birthday party a success. They helped organized and set up the activities for the children, which included mural fingerpainting, room visits by Elmo and Star Wars characters to the children who were unable to visit the Playroom or the Radio Lollipop studio, and bedside music was also provided.
Prior to the Radio Lollipop birthday, a Radiothon was held at the Power 96 Radio Station, and Wal-Marts in Sunrise, Hialeah Gardens and Miami Gardens. Sponsored the DJ Laz and Power 96, Radio Lollipop received the unbelievable amount of $170,239.00 in donations.
A special tribute goes out to all the staff from Child Life, Plant Ops, Environmental Services, and Dietary, who as a team, made sure all birthday plans were implemented quickly and thoroughly. We would also like to thank all the volunteers and Radio Lollipoppers, as well as staff that made the Radiothon and Birthday Party such a success.
Radio Lollipop has proven again that Laughter is the Best Medicine, and we look forward to continuing to visit the patients and making their hospital stay at Nicklaus Children's Hospital, formerly Miami Children's Hospital, as enjoyable as possible.
