Infant Massage 04/07/2014 - 04/28/2014

Cost:  $50 per person for the four week series

Infant massage is designed for children ages 0-12 months.  Our hands-on method insures that you will learn the art of interactive massage to suit your baby's individual needs and developmental level.  Infant massage encourages relaxation for both parent and baby, promotes longer and deeper sleeping patterns and can relieve colic symptoms among other benefits.   Please call 305-662-8282 or e-mail wendy.johnson@mch.com for further information.


Handwriting is Fun 04/12/2014 - 12/31/2014
MCH Outpatient Centers

MCH outpatient centers now offer "Handwriting is Fun."  This program is conducted in 10-week sessions (other options may be available) for children ages 4 to 8 years who are currently enrolled in pre-K through third grade and demonstrate difficulties with letter formation, legibility, pencil grasp, spacing, letter and number reversals.  The child may also have the inability to keep a steady and consistent pace while writing due to lack of attention, memorization skills of letters/numbers and improper posture.    

This program is conducted by an occupational therapist who is a Handwriting Without Tears Level 1 Certified Handwriting Specialist.  The one-hour sessions take place in a small group setting twice a week.  An evaluation is required to determine if your child is a candidate for this program.

This course is designed for childcare and foster care workers, teachers, camp counselors and coaches.  Parents with young children and adolescents are also highly encouraged to attend.  This course will give you the education and confidence you need to effectively care for children in an emergency until professional help arrives.  Topics include:  first aid basics, medical emergencies and CPR with Automated External Defibrillator (AED).  Participants will receive an American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR and Pediatric First Aid Course Completion Card.   Please call 305-662-8282 to register.


The New Normal: An Introduction to Diabetes Management

These weekly group sessions are for children ages 5 to 16.   This seven week program assists children with difficulties making friends, initiating conversation and play with other children and expressing emotions.   The group will provide an opportunity to interact with peers, offer techniques and strategies to foster social development and provide parents suggestions to use at home to support their children's social skills. Diabetes Support Group

Our diabetes teen support group is open to those with type 1 diabetes ages 13 to 17.  Topics of discussion will include the latest in diabetes research to the latest in insulin pump therapy and suggestions from the group.  Our primary goal is to network and assist others with this condition as well as educate the community on type 1 diabetes.  There is no cost to attend.  Registration is required.  Please call Awidla valdes at 786-624-4571 or e-mail awilda.valdes@mch.com for further information.
