This course is designed for childcare workers, teachers, camp counselors and coaches.  Parents with young children and adolescents are also highly encouraged to attend.  This course will give you the education and confidence you need to effectively care for children in an emergency until professional help arrives.  Topics include:  first aid basics, medical emergencies and CPR with Automated External Defibrillator (AED).  Participants will receive an American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR and Pediatric First Aid Course Completion Card.   Please call 305-662-8282 to register.

Children reach developmental milestones at different stages.  Developmental delays can occur in one or more areas, such as speech development, motor skills, cognitive, social and academic functioning.  The sooner a delay is diagnosed and receives intervention the better the progress.  Is your child struggling with social interaction?  Does your child have trouble concentrating?  Does your child have difficulty with learning?  Join us for an information session led by Rose Alvarez-Salvat, Ph.D to understand developmental milestones and red flags for early childhood and school age assessments.  Assessments for developmental delay, intellectual disability, learning disability and emothional/behavioral functioning will be reviewed and discussed.

 

Rose Alvarez-Salvat, Ph.D. is a licensed child psychologist in Miami, Florida and has worked as a clinical supervisor for Nicklaus Children's Hospital since 2004 and as a training director since 2014.

The Children's Skin Center at Nicklaus Children's Hospital, formerly Miami Children's Hospital is hosting their annual skin cancer screening day providing complete skin examinations for the early detection of squamous cell carcinomas, basal cell carcinomas and melanomas.  Truly a gift to the community the free screening is not conditioned on ordering any other item or service from Nicklaus Children's Hospital or its Medical Staff.  The screening is provided free of charge to adults and children by appointment only.

Superflex: A Social Skills Group for Children with Autism

Led by Superflex and a group of his comic book friends, this eight week group therapy program is designed for children ages 7 to 12 who have been diagnosed on the autism spectrum.  Superflex:  A Superhero Social Thinking Program provides a cognitive-behavioral curriculum to help children become aware of themselves and their social behaviors.  Over the course of the eight-week series children learn social vocabulary, how to be flexible in social situations, ways to increase self-awareness and strategies to self-monitor.  Parents who are interested in this program for their child will need to attend an in-take evaluation prior to the start of the program.  For more information or to register please contact Stefany Panta at 305-669-6503 or email mailto:Stephany.Panta@mch.com. Most insurance is accepted.  Please check with your provider for more details.

Understand the meaning and trreatment of ADHD.  This group will assist with managing feelings, developing organizationsal skills, maximizing concentration abilities, understanding the meaning and treatment of ADHD and how to socialize well with others.  Parents will be provided with lessons on how to manage their chidlren's behavior.  The group will meet one a week for six weeks.  Please call 305-669-6503 to schedule an intake session.  Insurance is accepted.

The New Normal: An Introduction to Diabetes Management

Diabetes Teen Support Group

Join us for group therapy to learn strategies for taking control over your anxiety symptoms.  Cope with fears and worries, identify anxiety triggers, learn to relax your mind and body to maximize your self-confidence.
