This course is designed to educate child caregivers and provide them with the skills and critical information necessary to handle crisis situations involving children in their care.  The following topics will be covered during the course:  infant and child CPR, pool and water safety, infant/child choking, injury prevention, first aid, basic childcare, kitchen and bathroom safety, outdoor safety, poison control and emergency management.   Please call 305-205-3315 for additional information and registration.


Nutrition and Cancer Prevention 06/22/2009

The MCH Cancer Center will host a nutrition and cancer prevention program.  This program will discuss how to decrease the odds of developing cancer by making wise food choices.  Miami Children's Hospital dietician Cristina Visona, MS, RD, LDN will review the importance of healthy selections and provide tips to incorporate cancer preventing foods in your diet.  For more information please call 305-663-8575.

This two day class teaches 11-15 year olds how to babysit safely.  The class provides CPR training, developmentally appropriate activities, feeding and bedtime routines to help teens and preteens care for babies and young children.   For more information please call 305-662-8296.


Bike Rallies
Safety on Wheels
MCH parking garage
These rallies are for children on wheels, bikes or skates, and are held in the MCH parking garage, rain or shine. The course takes 30 - 40 minutes to complete. The program runs continuously, so come anytime between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm. There are some 24 inch bikes available to borrow or bring your child’s bike for a free safety check by a local bike shop. Bike helmets will also be checked for proper fit. A limited supply of bike helmets will be given away. These rallies are by request and no registration is needed.

Car Seat Checks

Child Passenger Safety Technicians will check your child’s seat for defects, recalls, installation, and fit.

Adolescent Depression/Anxiety Group

Goal is to foster coping skills to alleviate and prevent feelings of anxiety and depression. This group is open to adolescents between the ages of 13 – 17. Please contact 305-666-6511 ext. 2450 for further information.

These monthly fun-filled sessions for siblings of children with special needs provide opportunities for children to share personal feelings, experiences and concerns, while taking part in fun activities.
