Lomaun

"My son, Lomaun, was born on February 17th, 1993. He was not due for another six weeks. He was going into fetal distress with every contraction and was delivered via Cesarean Section. He had many complications and we were told that he was very sick. An ambulance came and took him to Miami Children's Hospital. I remember that a portion of the problems were: A hole in his heart, an enlarged liver and only one kidney due to the other being atrophied. He was 8 pounds and 3 ounces at birth, despite being so very early. He "coded" twice, and both times the medical staff brought him back from certain death. At the same time, I had just had my first surgery, and needed help myself. The staff took care of me just as if I were one of the patients, even making sure that I ate. I could not ask for better service, treatment and caring. My husband and I are so happy that MCH was there for us in our time of uncertainty and need. At age 16, Lomaun is the section leader for the Dillard High School Marching Panthers (Of course, I am a band mom.) He taught himself to play the trumpet, drums and the keyboard. He is on the Dillard High Step Team (M.O.B.), which took second place at his first competition. He is approximately 6' 2" and in excellent physical condition. The one kidney is not something that concerns him at all. With God's guidance, the staff at Miami Children's Hospital provided a miracle that makes me smile at least a couple times a day!"
