Beatriz Cunill-De Sautu, MD, FAAP    
Pediatric Residency Program Director

Dr. Beatriz Cunill-De Sautu earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey – Robert Wood Johnson School of Medicine.  Subsequently, Dr. Cunill completed her three year pediatric residency training followed by an additional year as Chief Resident at Miami Children’s Hospital.

Upon completion of her Chief Resident term, Dr. Cunill continue her pursuit of academic pediatrics by joining the Department of Medical Education at Miami Children’s Hospital and assisting in the administration of the pediatric residency program.  Her responsibilities included coordinating the education and training of pediatric residents at the community-based continuity clinic sites, leading the organization of the faculty development opportunities for the teaching staff and participating in various performance improvement and child advocacy projects.  Dr. Cunill also serves as an attending physician and preceptor at the MCH Pediatric Care Center. Prior to being named Program Director, Dr. Cunill-De Sautu served as the Interim Director of Medical Education at Miami Children’s Hospital and led the Pediatric Residency Program through a successful ACGME survey.

Dr. Cunill-De Sautu holds faculty appointments at NOVA Southeastern University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine (Clinical Assistant Professor) and at the St. George’s University School of Medicine (Director of Medical Education, Professor, Clerkship Director).  She is board-certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Balagangadhar R. Totapally, MBBS, DCH, MD, MRCP,

A native of India, Dr. Balagangadhar R. Totapally earned his MBBS degree, MD and DCH (postgraduate diploma in child health) at Osmania University, Hyderabad, India. Dr. Totapally completed his pediatric residency at Hurley Medical Center, Flint, Michigan, one year of fellowship training in neonatology at the Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, Canada, and a fellowship in pediatric critical care medicine at Miami Children’s Hospital, Miami, Florida.

Dr. Totapally is a diplomate of the American Board of Pediatrics with subspecialty certification in Pediatric Critical Care. Dr. Totapally is a member of the Royal College of Physicians (United Kingdom), of the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and of other professional associations. He has published more than thirty scientific articles and is involved in several current research projects. His present areas of research interest include effects of carbon dioxide in sepsis and resuscitation. He serves on several hospital committees as chairperson or member. Dr. Totapally actively participates in the PICU-focus group sponsored by NACHRI and is the MCH medical-coordinator for the VPS database. Dr. Totapally oversees MCH participation in the National Registry for CPR (NRCPR) and is active contributing to the NACHRI-sponsored Pediatric Code data base. Dr. Totapally is also the Medical Director of PALS program at MCH.
