2007 Subspecialty Residents (Fellows) Grant Award

 

The Miami Children's Hospital Research Institute is requesting proposals for research projects starting July 1, 2007.

Purpose:
The purpose of the Subspecialty Residents (Fellows) Grant Application Award is to encourage MCH subspecialty residents to pursue a research project and to write and submit grant applications for extramural funding (funding from outside of MCH).

 

Eligibility:

The program is open to all Miami Children’s Hospital subspecialty residents (fellows) who submit a grant application to any government agency or outside foundation (other than the MCH Foundation during the year July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2008. The subspecialty resident (fellow) must be in his/her first or second year. The grant application must be processed through the MCH Research Institute. Each subspecialty resident (fellow) may receive no more than one Award per year.

 

Funding:

Subspecialty residents (fellows) who complete and submit a grant application to an outside granting agency for extramural funding are eligible to receive an award. The amount of the grant to each subspecialty resident (fellow) is $3,500. The funds will be managed by the MCH Research Institute and are to be used by the awardee for the Subspecialty Resident’s (Fellow’s) academic activities, including travel to a scientific conference. Actual funding is dependent upon availability of monies. There are currently sufficient funds for up to 15 Awards.

 

Application and Review Process:

There is no deadline. The Award may be given throughout the year. Applications for extramural funding are submitted to government and private granting agencies according to their specific instructions. The Office of Research Administration will process all grant applications and issue Subspecialty Residents (Fellow) Grant Application Awards promptly following application submission to the agency. To apply, complete the attached application form and send to the MCH Research Institute (attention: Ofer Amit) along with the outside grant application.

Purpose:
The purpose of the Collaborative DNA Research Award is to fund high-impact translational and/or clinical research through a collaboration between investigators at MCH and either UM or FIU.

 

Eligibility:

For a proposal to be considered responsive to this RFP and be eligible for consideration, all of the following criteria must be met:

1. The research must involve DNA or Genetics (as required by the donor).

 

2. The funds must be used for a research program led by a full-time faculty member at one of two Partner Institutions, either the FIU or UM School of Medicine. The faculty member may currently be on the Partner Institution’s faculty or may be a new recruit. Recruiting can be a component of a response to this RFP.

 

3. The Partner Institution must provide at least a 1:1 match of MCH funds for the program.

 

4. The application must include a commitment letter from the Partner Institution.

 

5. The research program must involve and the application must be submitted by a member or members of the MCH Medical Staff.

 

6. The research program must involve patients at MCH or biological specimens from MCH patients.

 

7. The proposal must outline a plan resulting in the program achieving self-sustainability via NIH, funding in no greater than three years.

 

Funding:

MCH will provide up to $100,000 a year for up to three years.  

 

Application and Review Process:

Applications will be accepted and reviewed in a two-step process. The deadline for pre-applications is Friday, August 3rd, 2007. The deadline for full applications is Friday, October 5th, 2007. Pre-applications will be reviewed promptly following submission and applicants submitting responsive proposals will be invited to submit a full application. Do not exceed the page limits set in the instructions or the application will be returned as being non-responsive to this RFP.

 

The applications will be reviewed administratively for responsiveness to this RFP, completeness and adherence to instructions. Eligible full proposals will be referred to a committee chaired by the Director of the Research Institute for ranking. Final determination of the funded application will be made by the Research Committee of the Board of Directors.
