Effective January 4, 2005, all investigators at Miami Children's Hospital will be required to obtain human subjects protection training through the Collaborative IRB Training Initiative (CITI) course, which is hosted by the University of Miami. Investigators may access CITI through this link: www.citiprogram.org. The total time to complete these training modules is approximately three to four hours. However, it can be completed on a modular basis, occupying 20 to 30 minutes at a time. A passing score of 80% will be required for all of the modules combined. The Office of Research Administration will maintain a record of the investigator's CITI training certificate, which will be valid for two (2) years. Refresher modules will then be available for ongoing training.
New investigators and all key personnel who wish to participate in a clinical research study will be required to take the CITI training starting January 4, 2005. Investigators involved in ongoing research studies will have additional transition time before they are required to take the CITI training. Existing certificates of training from other sources (NIH website, conferences, etc.) will be honored for up to one year from the date on the certificate from the course or conference that was attended. After that, investigators will be required to take the CITI course. For example, if you received an NIH training certificate on 12/01/2003, you will need to take the CITI course by 11/30/04. Likewise, if your current training certificate is dated 9/01/04, passing the CITI course would not be required until 8/31/05. If you wish, you may take the CITI course on an optional basis even if your certificate is less than one year old.
