MCH received legislative authority to treat adults with congenital heart disease during the 2009 legislative session. It became effective July 1, 2009.
This is testament to the success of the Congenital Heart Institute where patients live well into adulthood.
The Congenital Heart Institute has among the best interventional and surgical outcomes in the nation.
The cardiac surgical mortality rate in 2010 was 1.5 percent and the cumulative surgical mortality rate from 2007-2010 was 2.1 percent. Both are among the lowest rates in the country.

The PICU is the most experienced resource for pediatric and neonatal ECMO (heart/lung by-pass) for children with life- threatening conditions in Florida.
