“At three weeks of age, my daughter Clarice had her first
heart surgery. Only days before, we had found out that she had VSD and coarctation of the aorta. We were frightened, but had faith in the doctors and staff at Miami Children's Hospital. Reecie was one of the first patients in the CICU (Cardiac Intensive Care Unit) that December of 1995 and the staff treated her like their own family. Clarice would have three more surgeries before she was five years old, but thanks to the skilled hands of Dr. Redmond Burke and the care of her cardiologist, Dr. Evan Zahn, Clarice is now in good health. Her strength and endurance are limited and she will never win a marathon but she is happy and healthy. We thank God constantly for the care she received and still continues to receive. When my husband and I remember Clarice as a weak, sick baby and see her now as a growing fourteen year old we are forever grateful to Miami Children's Hospital!”
