Definitions
Domestic Observer - a physician who holds a valid medical license to practice in the United States. Approval for these positions is based on departmental availability and purpose of visit. Domestic Observerships are for a period of 4 weeks in length. Please allow 4 to 6 weeks for processing.
International Observer - a person who holds a valid medical license in another country and has proper credentials to come to MCH for a period of observation for 4 weeks.
International Scholar - a person who holds a valid medical license in another country, who is a recognized teacher or scholar in his/her field and who will be present at the hospital to teach and observe for a period of 5 days or less.
Policy - Miami Children's Hospital permits qualified individuals to be present in the hospital to observe patient care activities in order to advance medical training so long as the observation is done under supervision in a manner which does not compromise or interfere with patient care or with the formal training provided to others at the hospital. A period of observation is not intended to be a formal training program and will not be allowed as an alternative to a residency. There will be no clinical component to any observation period and MCH will not provide any training certificate for an individual's period of observation. All Observers must register through the Department of Medical Education. Anyone who does not pre-register and seek proper approval will be asked to immediately leave the Hospital premises.
Please note that we require applicants have command of the English language so they may gain the most of the experience. Also, all requested documents from the "Document Checklist" must be translated into English, if applicable.
