Community & Volunteer Resources
Special Events

The Community and Volunteer Resources Department plans and arranges Special Events for the patients in the hospital. Special Events have included visits by sports figures, celebrities, and various local groups from schools and corporate organizations.

The most successful events are those where the children may have hands-on experiences, such as making puppets, room decorations, and engaging in a variety of arts and crafts projects. Please remember there will be children of all ages and disabilities in the Playroom.

A Group Activity and Special Events form must be completed and sent to the Community and Volunteer Resources Department, with a choice of two dates the group is available. All events are scheduled for the Playroom, Monday through Thursday, either at 2:30 pm or 6:30 pm, or Friday at 2:30 pm. No candy or balloons are permitted to be given to the children. A teen group (consisting of no more than five) must have an adult sponsor accompany them to the hospital and must be in attendance.

The hospital also accepts NEW donations from the community, which are arranged through the Community and Volunteer Resource Department. Board games, books, coloring books and crayons, as well as stickers are always welcome. Anyone interested in making a donation should contact the CVR Department at 305-662-8225, to arrange to make a drop off. All donations are acknowledged by letter. This is a great opportunity for school clubs, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and other organizations to make a contribution that will benefit our young patients.

With the approaching holidays, the hospital will be in need of new toys for our patients of all ages. Any individual or group interested in sponsoring a Toy Drive should request all new and unwrapped gifts from donors. Gifts will be delivered to the Community and Volunteer Resources Department and will be distributed by staff on Christmas Eve. The hospital also provides gifts to siblings of patients, and to many children from families in need. All gifts/toys will be acknowledged by letter.

Please contact the Community and Volunteer Resources Department for any further inquiries.
