Barium Enema for Rectal Bleeding or Polyps:
Give air contrast preparation even when regular barium enema is ordered.
IVP:
A consent form must be signed by legal guardian or parents prior to examination being performed.

Barium Enema with Air Contrast
For two days prior to examination, no solids are to be eaten. A liquid diet may consist of clear juices, clear broth, plain jello, soft drinks, i.e., Coke, 7-UP, etc. No milk, milk products, cream or solid food is to be taken. Clear liquid (no milk) may be taken the morning of the examination.
6-30 pounds:
Nothing by mouth 3 hours prior to the exam
Insert 1/2 Dulcolax suppository rectally at bedtime

31-45 pounds:

Before retiring, tap water enemas (1 quart each) until returns are clear. Take enemas lying down

Gall Bladder Preparation (No Ultrasound)
Fat-free dinner the night before the examination. Take capsules at 9:00 pm. Nothing to eat or drink after midnight. No laxatives.
Under 75 pounds:
Radiologist will determine dosage
75-90 pounds:
4 capsules Oragrafin
90-150 pounds:
6 capsules Oragrafin
150-200 pounds:
9 capsules Oragrafin
Over 200 pounds:
12 capsules Oragrafin
