At Miami Children’s Hospital we believe that nutrition plays an important role in your child’s health and healing. The Food and Nutrition Department provides room service dining and offers special formulas to meet the individual needs of each patient. Our facility has a designated formula mixing room where infant formulas and specialized formulas are prepared in a sterile environment to ensure the safety of our patients. Comprehensive nutrition consultation services by registered dietitians are available for patients in both the inpatient and ambulatory (outpatient) settings to address nutritional concerns and assist with promoting healthy outcomes.
Our Food Services Department is comprised of Clinical Nutrition Services, Patient Services and Retail/Catering Services.
What do we offer? Clinical dietitians are part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team and participate in Miami Children's Hospital Family centered care. They work closely with other staff members to ensure the patient’s nutritional needs are being met. Our dietitians are knowledgeable in all areas of pediatric nutrition and can develop healthy eating plans based on the child’s health condition.
The clinical dietitian works directly with patients and families to develop individualized nutrition plans. Clinical nutrition services include:
• Evaluation of nutritional and growth status
• Nutrition education
• Instructions on breast milk handling and formula preparation
• Recommendations and management for patients receiving tube feeding or nutrition via intravenous route (parenteral nutrition)
