PEDIATRIC SURGERY

The five fulltime geographic pediatric surgeons in this division provide comprehensive and direct surgical care to newborns, infants, children and adolescents in the areas of General, Thoracic and Reconstructive Urologic Surgery. These surgeons have had extensive training and experience in this unique field and limit their practice to children. While they are dedicated to the reconstruction of many congenital anomalies, the treatment of solid cancer problems in childhood, and other very specialized problems, they also see and care for many common problems such as hernia, undescended testicles and even appendicitis. Many procedures are done on an ambulatory, sameday basis, utilizing highly specialized pediatric anesthesiologists and specially designed and equipped operating rooms. Minimally invasive surgical procedures, such as laparoscopy, are an important advance now available to even small children. Clinical research along with postgraduate medical education is an integral part of the pediatric surgical program. Regular publications and lectures keep the program on the cutting edge. Regional transportation of critically ill children or trauma patients requiring pediatric surgical services can be easily arranged. Telephone consultations are invited.
