Department of Psychiatry

The Department of Psychiatry – for over 30 years - has been serving and effectively treating the psychiatric and psychological needs of our children in this community. This year, with its highly trained staff, we offer a new and innovative summer program for teens with emotional, social, and behavioral challenges ~ Camp YES.

Camp YES

(Youth Enrichment Skills)

Camp YES, a partially funded program through a grant from The Children’s Trust, is the only summer day camp in the Miami-Dade County area designed to service challenging teens in a structured, nurturing and fun environment. Camp YES emphasizes new possibilities for each camper focusing on teaching youth vital skills in:

  • Effective communication
  • Problem-solving and
  • Emotional regulation

 

Program Description

This 10-week program offers youth, ages 12-18, the opportunity to enjoy an environment that fosters success, builds confidence, boosts self-esteem and promotes achievement. Camp YES, a 5-day per week program (M-F), begins June 8, 2009 through August 14, 2009 from 8am to 6pm. As with any program that serves youth with challenging behaviors, the camp staff will modify scheduled activities to ensure the safety and needs of each camper by conducting behavioral assessments, providing feedback sessions and developing an individualized treatment plan.Cost for this program is based on a sliding fee schedule. Information is included in our application packet.

Camp Yes Activities

During the summer break, many youngsters lose theacademic gains they have made throughout the year. At Camp YES, in addition to an array of fun and age-appropriate activities in areas of physical fitness, health education, and social skills building, there is a daily literacy component to help your child maintain his/her academic achievements.
