Safe Kids Miami Dade County

The Dade County SAFE KIDS Coalition is comprised of public, private and voluntary organizations united and committed to identify and significantly reduce unintentional deaths and injuries to the children of South Florida.  We respond to the needs of our community by providing professional education, practical training programs, and legislative initiatives essential to promote the safety and well being of our children.

• Bicycle Safety – bicycle helmets distributed to local schools and community groups at cost.

• Bike Rodeos – fun, interactive activities help children learn safe bicycle skills.  Using a fully equipped trailer the rodeos are available for use at schools, boy and girl scout troops, churches and at other community events.

• Child restraints – child restraint check up events are held in collaboration with other agencies in the community. Child restraint devices are made available at cost or a discounted price.

• Fire Prevention – smoke detectors distributed and made available at cost.

• Water Safety – participate in the Southeast Florida Water Injury Prevention Coalition.

• Gun Safety – participate with other local agencies in Project C.A.R.G.O. (Communities Addressing Responsible Gun Ownership)

• Health Fairs – provide volunteers, written materials, safety devises and injury prevention information to various agencies and community groups.

• Child Restraint Offenders Program –traffic school for individuals who are given citations for non-use or improper use of child restraint devices.  Offenders are required to prove that they have the proper size child restraint.  The course instructs the offenders on the proper use of child restraints.

• Special Needs Child Passenger Safety Program - The Florida SAFE KIDS Special Needs Child Passenger Safety Project promotes injury prevention and advocates for the safety and protection of all children with special needs and their families while riding in motor vehicles.
