For Nurses
MCH Nursing Academy

MCH is committed to providing an environment that fosters nursing research, staff involvement and innovation, a clinical ladder and an environment which supports teamwork, collegiality and holistic, interdisciplinary healthcare.

The MCH Nursing Academy provides and supports an innovative transitional approach to prepare nurses for an excellent career in Pediatric Nursing. This program provides preceptor-led experiences, observational activities, and a structured process of didactic, clinical and behavioral experiences.

The program is comprised of five extraordinary components.

  • General Nursing Orientation: includes 1 week of interactive, instructor-led classes, and computer-skills labs all complemented by a tour of the facility.
  • Unit-specific Preceptor Orientation: includes a 6 to 12 week orientation on the specified unit, under the leadership of our experienced preceptors.
  • Clinical Exchange Program: designed to expose the nurse to an array of patient care areas relevant to their patient population.
  • Pediatric Nursing Theory Courses and Skills Workshops: nurses attend a 40 hour training session to improve their Pediatric knowledge and skills.
  • Nurse Support Group: designed to provide mentoring opportunities to guide new nurses as they transition from student nurse to staff nurse, through planned experiences.

With this program, the nursing student will:

  • Become a valued member of the MCH team as a Care Assistant

  • Be eligible for an additional salary increase upon successful completion of an RN Program

  • Transition into the Nursing Academy with proof of eligibility to sit for FL licensing board.
