Art and recreational activities are offered in the playroom, as well as medical play, magic shows, special community group presentations and holiday celebrations. No medical procedures are allowed in the playroom. This establishes one place in the hospital where children are free of medical intrusions. However, medical staff are welcome to visit their patients while they play. Patients of all ages are welcome, however, children with infectious illnesses are not allowed to visit until they are taken off isolation precautions.
Siblings and other visitors must be at least 3 years of age. Siblings and visitors 18 years of age and under must also be cleared by nursing before entering the room. There are also smaller activity rooms in other areas of the hospital where parents can take patients during off-hours of the main playroom.
Child Life Specialists, student interns and volunteers staff the playroom seven days a week. The hours are:
10:00 am - 11:30 am
2:30 pm - 4:30 pm
6:30 pm - 8:30 pm*
*There are no weekend evening hours.
Special Thanks to the Engroff family for their donation of the outdoor playroom toys and activities.
3North Playroom Hours
Monday through Saturday
1:30 pm -2:30 pm
The 3North Playroom is exclusively for the use of patients and families admitted to the 3North Hematology/Oncology Unit. Newly renovated in 2004, the playroom is a vibrant element in the normalization of the hospital environment and provides a welcome distraction from medical treatment and procedures.
Upon medical clearance, patients admitted to 3North unit may attend a daily playroom session in our third floor main playroom.
Special thanks to Toys-R-Us and the Starlight Foundation for their generous contributions to make the 3North playroom a reality.
