Moving to the Beat...of Radio Lollipop!
A unique charity, Radio Lollipop first began in 1979 at Queen Mary's Hospital for Children in England. The program has been such a success that Radio Lollipop has now spread to more than 15 hospitals throughout the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and the United States, reaching over a quarter of a million children each year. In August of 1996, Miami Children's became the first hospital in the United States to host a Radio Lollipop.

Play is essential to a child's development. It is important that hospitalized children are both supported and encouraged to participated in play and learning activities.
At each Radio Lollipop site - with its fully-equipped in-house radio station - a team of volunteers involve the patients in recreational activities linked to radio programs that are child-focused, and filled with mentally stimulating fun and games.

Many programs are often presented by the patients themselves! Volunteers also work with the children at bedside playing games, reading books and otherwise encouraging them to participate in the radio broadcasts and win prizes.
