Enrique Escalon, M.D.

Enrique Escalon, M.D.
Director, Division of Hematology - Oncology and Cancer Center

Dr. Escalon earned his medical degree from University of El Salvador Medical School. He served his residency at Miami Children’s Hospital, and was appointed chief resident in 1974. Dr. Escalon completed his fellowship in pediatric hematology-oncology at Miami Children’s Hospital and is board certified in pediatrics and pediatric hematology-oncology. Dr. Escalon has also served since 1990 as Principal MCH Investigator for the Children’s Oncology Group, a prestigious national cancer research organization in which MCH holds membership status.

Dr. Pefkarou received her medical degree from University College Medical School at London University in London, England. She completed her residency in pediatrics at Mercy Hospital in Baltimore and a fellowship in pediatric hematology-oncology at Miami Children’s Hospital. Dr. Pefkarou is board certified in pediatrics and pediatric hematology-oncology.

John A. Fort, M.D.

John A. Fort, M.D.
Director, Bone Marrow Transplant Program, MCH

Dr. Fort received his medical degree at University of Louisville Medical School in Louisville, Kentucky. He completed his residency at the University of Louisville and a fellowship in pediatric hematologyoncology at the University of Florida in Gainesville. Dr. Fort is board certified in pediatrics and pediatric hematology-oncology and served as assistant professor to the Bone Marrow Transplant Program at George Washington University. 

Ziad Ahmad Khatib, M.D.

Director Neuro-Oncology, MCH

Dr. Khatib received his medical degree from American University of Beirut, Lebanon. He completed his residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami and a fellowship in hematology-oncology at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Dr. Khatib is a member of the American Society Hematology, American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Society of Pediatric Hematology Oncology and the Society of Neuro-Oncology. He participates in conducting research studies involving children with brain tumors and testing new approaches for cancer treatment.

Ziad Ahmad Khatib, M.D.

Guillermo R. DeAngulo, M.D.
Hematologist-Oncologist, MCH

Dr. De Angulo received his medical degree at the Escuela de Ciencias Medicas/Universidad Autonoma de Centro America in San Jose, Costa Rica. He completed his residency in pediatrics at Driscoll Children’s Hospital/Texas A&M University College of Medicine and a fellowship in pediatric hematology-oncology at the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. During his fellowship he was awarded the Young Investigator Travel Award by the American Society of Pediatric Hematology Oncology. Dr. De Angulo is board certified in pediatrics and pediatric hematology-oncology. Dr. De Angulo actively participates in research. He has published and has presented research outcomes at numerous national and international conferences.
