Miami Children's Hospital (MCH) has some of the best nursing jobs in South Florida.
Lilia Alonso, RN, 2East
Lilia began working at Miami Children's Hospital in 1988 as a registrar in the Emergency Department. During her career at the hospital, she worked with the Quality Department, Outpatient Scheduling and in the Admitting Office. In 1989, Lilia started classes to become a nurse, and in June 2002, she fulfilled her dream, and in turn is helping children fulfill theirs.
"My favorite nurse is Lilia. She's my favorite nurse because she was always there for me. When I first came she helped me all she could, no matter how many patients she had. Some days when I started to feel depressed, she would come in and assure me that everything was going to work out OK...that's why Lilia is my favorite nurse!" -Julissa Smith (pictured above).
Frank Garcia, RN

I chose nursing as a career because of many reasons. The one that stands out most is the memory of my brother who was involved in a severe accident that required him to be hospitalized for four months. During his hospitalization, I saw firsthand what nurses do and what they stand for.
With these vivid memories, I began to explore the nursing profession and discovered the vast opportunities open to those who choose this path. There is nursing education, home health nursing and med-surg nursing. Scholarships are widely available and salaries are good. Most importantly, nursing lets me interact and make a difference in someone's life.
Michelle Burke, MSN, ARNP

My job as a Clinical Nurse Specialist at Miami Children's Hospital is the perfect fit for my career. Each day I have a new challenge. I have opportunities to teach others on a daily basis. I work closely with the physicians, nurses and families. In my spare time, I teach clinicals at Miami Children's Hospital for nursing students from a local university. I love the opportunity to teach pediatrics to nursing students who are always so receptive. I know the students are our future nurses and I hope that my clinical time with them has an influence on their nursing career.
