Policy- and payment-driven imperatives will drive operations across hospitals, medical groups, and health systems in the next several years, as the overall cost of the U.S. healthcare system moves towards system unsustainability. Among the key trends will be the shift, wherever possible, of care delivery from the most acute care delivery sites to less acute sites of care, particularly towards and into care into the home, including through hospital-at-home programs; and the shift into intensive population health and care management for the vast majority of patients living with chronic illnesses. In the context of such imperatives, what new and emerging technologies will come to the forefront? A panel of health system leaders will look at the possibilities, and the opportunities.

The Future Path of Telehealth and Remote Care

The world-shattering phenomenon of the COVID-19 pandemic forced health systems globally to truly embrace telehealth-based care delivery. In the United States, telehealth had been a sleeping giant—an area of activity with tremendous potential, but one whose potential is only now being plumbed. What are the key lessons that have been learned by the leaders of the most pioneering patient care organizations? And how have key stakeholder groups responded—clinicians, administrators, IT leaders, patients, families, communities? The opportunities continue to be open—and are still being explored. Find out from the experts what’s being learned—and what’s next.

Building Research Infrastructure in a Clinical Setting: Role-Modeling for Future Nurse Scientists

presenters

As both a pediatric nurse practitioner and an outcomes researcher, Dr. Sarik applies her clinical expertise as well as advanced training in health services research to her role. In her position as Research Nurse Scientist at Nicklaus, she directs nursing research for the institution, providing direct support to clinical nurses interested in completing research and evidence-based practice and building infrastructure across the hospital to support research endeavors.

This position allows Dr. Sarik to successfully implement research from within the clinical setting, quickly moving evidence and into action. Dr. Sarik's personal research focuses on methods to improve the transition from hospital to home and nursing workforce development. She is particularly interested in the role of the nurse in health transitions, as nurses provide the majority of discharge teaching and education in the acute setting.
