Miami Children's Heart Program First in Nation to Integrate Data System with National Registry Databases
The Heart Program at Miami Children’s Hospital (MCH) – already world renowned for IT leadership in the care of children with congenital heart disease – became the first program in the world to integrate its Electronic Medical Record (EMR) with the three North American registry databases for congenital heart disease. The purpose is to record and enhance care practice for children and adults receiving treatment for congenital heart anomalies.
In cooperation with CardioAccess, Inc, MCH on May 6 integrated its Cerner EMR with registry databases for surgical patients, catheterization patients and cardiac ICU patients. This practice will enhance patient care and safety, family access, research to better understand the genomics of congenital heart disease and enable public reporting of outcomes. MCH remains committed to continuous improvement in the care of patients with congenital heart disease.

The ICO database with its integrated Centripetus Web Portal is configured to analyze and report on key metrics for particular specialty procedures. The Centripetus product allows for participation in multiple societal registries and enables national and regional benchmarking. This integrated registry solution is specifically configured to measure and report to the following registries: Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) Congenital Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgical Database, Congenital Cardiac Anesthesia Society (CCAS), American College of Cardiology (ACC) IMPACT Registry module (for adult and pediatric patients with congenital heart disease undergoing diagnostic catheterization and catheter-based interventions), and Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care Consortium (PC4).
The CardioAccess products enhance patient care, teaching, research and practice management.
