Your nine-month-old baby: Understanding Normal Development and When to Seek Help

Today, I want to talk to you about understanding normal development and recognizing when to seek help for your nine-month-old baby.

First, let's discuss what's normal.
Milestones:

  • Crawling,
  • Pulling up to stand,
  • Starting to say their first words

At nine months, your baby should be reaching some exciting milestones! They might be crawling, pulling up to stand, and even starting to say their first words like "mama" and "dada." It's incredible to watch them grow!
Remember, every baby is unique, and they develop at their own pace. Some may be a bit ahead, while others take their time, and that's okay!

Now, let's talk about red flags. There are certain signs that may indicate your baby needs extra attention.

WHEN TO SEEK HELP:

  • Isn't making eye contact
  • Doesn't respond to their name
  • Excessively fussy
  • Not sitting up
  • Not reaching for objects

If your nine-month-old isn't making eye contact, doesn't respond to their name, or seems excessively fussy, it's essential to take notice. Delayed motor skills, such as not sitting up or reaching for objects, might also be a cause for concern.

If you notice any of these red flags, don't hesitate to reach out to your pediatrician for help. Early intervention is key!
