Dr. Hannan was a visiting associate professor of surgery at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C., before joining Miami Children’s
Hospital. He graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and has received his medical degree from the University of California at San Francisco. His training in general and cardiothoracic surgery was at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston and Children’s Hospital Boston. Dr. Hannan spent three years working in the Harvard research laboratories with Dr. Judah Folkman, a world-renowned angiogenesis researcher. Dr. Hannan has patented his discoveries on the heparin molecule. He is licensed by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery. Dr. Hannan’s current research interests center around new methods of mechanically supporting children with failing hearts.
