The most experienced pediatric orthopedic team...
The Miami Children’s Hospital Department of Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery specializes in the care of musculo-skeletal problems in children. Orthopedics was one of six initial departments established when Miami Children’s Hospital was founded in 1950. In fact, it was an orthopedic surgeon who was responsible for the hospital’s creation. Today, the staff includes eight full-time board-certified orthopedic surgeons trained to meet the special needs of children of all ages – from birth through 20 years of age. With the assistance of a dedicated support staff, the surgeons perform over 1,200 surgical procedures each year. The orthopedic surgery department also evaluates an additional 25,000 outpatient visits on an annual basis. As the largest and most comprehensive pediatric orthopaedic practice in Florida, the department can skillfully provide state-of-the-art and compassionate care for your child’s orthopedic concerns.
Children have different needs than adults. They often require orthopedic care administered by experts who are specially trained in the care of children. That care is best provided in a facility designed exclusively for children. When a child needs orthopedic surgery or a diagnostic procedure, Miami Children’s Hospital has pediatric orthopedic surgeons, pediatric radiologists, and pediatric anesthesiologists who specialize exclusively in the care of children. This creates an environment that is comfortable and safe for your child.
Pediatric care is provided by a team of highly trained, very caring professionals including orthopaedic technicians, physician assistants, orthopedic residents and fellows, along with a large number of nurse coordinators, and support personnel. Many of the staff members are bilingual. They are ready to assist patients and their families at all times.
The Department of Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery provides diagnosis and management for:
Miami Children’s Hospital is the only free-standing pediatric trauma center in Florida, which makes it the best place to take your child for emergency care. The hospital also has its own transport service. The LifeFlight
® Critical Care Transport Program provides tertiary transport care that physicians, emergency departments and hospitals across South Florida, the Caribbean, and Latin America have come to depend on. Another distinguishing feature of the Miami Children’s Hospital emergency care program is that children receive definitive care for their injury on the spot. Children with fractures leave the hospital with a cast already in place, not simply a splint and a referral to an orthopedist for casting as one finds at most regional hospitals. Families leave knowing the next time they see a doctor it will be for follow-up care, not additional emergency treatment.
