Cardiometabolic & Preventive Program

The Cardiometabolic & Preventive Program offers personalized consultation and education for families and pediatricians. The program is led by a multidisciplinary team of board-certified specialists which includes pediatric cardiologists, endocrinologists and nutritionists.

The program is designed for children and families with metabolic syndrome, obesity, hyperlipidemia, and hypertension. Participants will receive a comprehensive cardiometabolic and lifestyle analysis to help identify concerning risk factors. A personalized action plan will also be provided with an emphasis on lifestyle and nutritional modifications.

Prenatal Heart Program

The Prenatal Heart Program is designed to address the needs of families whose babies are suspected of having heart disease discovered via a prenatal ultrasound or are diagnosed with congenital heart disease by fetal echocardiography. Our goal is to improve the care of infants with congenital heart disease through perinatal diagnosis, prenatal planning, post-natal care and follow-up after birth and throughout the child's life.

The Nicklaus Children’s Outpatient Cardiology Program is recognized for expertise in the care and management of pediatric heart disease, offering evaluation and treatment for fetal, newborns, children and adults with a suspected or a diagnosed cardiac disorder. Zero Suicide Initiative

Nicklaus Children's has joined Zero Suicide, a quality improvement initiative that elevates system-wide suicide prevention and care, with the goal of saving lives.

Through a grant provided by the Children's Hospital Association, Nicklaus Children's is implementing Zero Suicide's proven prevention and care practices adapted within a continuous quality improvement model.

Goals include:

  • Reducing suicide deaths
  • Decreasing hospitalizations
  • Enhancing quality and continuity of care
  • Improving post-discharge follow-up visit attendance
  • Improving screening rates
  • Implementing system-wide care pathways
  • Reducing inpatient psychiatric hospital readmissions

What Patients and Families Should Know

As part of this initiative, patients ages 8 and above in our Emergency Department, Urgent Care Centers and inpatient units, are being screened for suicidal ideation. Parents and clinicians will be made aware when children report such thought patterns. Additional follow through and recommendations will be made for as appropriate to children's care needs.
