Today the Florida House of Representatives passed HB1159 that included a provision that would allow Nicklaus Children's Hospital, formerly Miami Children's Hospital, to provide obstetrical services for healthy pregnant women whose child has been diagnosed with a congenital disease requiring immediate intervention upon birth. NCH is especially thankful to Representative Eddy Gonzalez for his leadership and support.
This bill would give mothers and physicians the choice to ensure that babies receive life-saving care immediately after birth. To Florida's families this issue is not about a minimal financial impact
to other hospitals, it's about protecting our most vulnerable citizens.
We are asking NCH advocates to contact Senators and ask them to take up the 10-bed obstetrical unit provision of HB1159.
Final passage of this bill will require a favorable Senate vote.
