Fourth Year Medical Students

Allergy/Immunology

Description:

The student, under direct physician supervision, will participate in clinics and private patient care in the area of allergy and immunology.

 

Educational Objectives:

The medical student will become familiar with the skills of allergy history taking, physical examination of patients, and laboratory techniques. He/she will become familiar with skin testing, pulmonary function, and immunotherapy.

 

Methodology:

Informal discussion sessions with the staff will include the following subjects:

 

1. Asthma, including status asthmaticus

2. Rhinitis

3. Atopic dermatitis

4. Urticaria and angioedema

5. Anaphylaxis

6. Food and drug allergy

7. Immunodeficiency states

 

Opportunity for participation in clinic and private office settings.

 

Evaluation:

1. Written examination at completion of elective

2. Case presentation by student.
