Pediatric Neurosurgery Success Stories
Miami Children’s Hospital has, perhaps, the largest national experience in surgically treating young children with intractable epilepsy.  Treatments include hemispherectomy and focal cortical resection, which is often aided by extraoperative monitoring with subdural electrodes to accurately define the epileptogenic area, as well as allow for functional cortical mapping.  The Division of Neurosurgery at Miami Children’s Hospital is also one of the busiest referral centers in the country for pediatric brain tumors based upon the expertise of our pediatric neurosurgeons using minimally invasive endoscopic techniques, frameless stereotactic guidance, and intraoperative mapping to preserve normal brain function.  Miami Children’s Hospital also boasts widely recognized pediatric neurosurgery programs for craniosynostosis/craniofacial syndromes and spasticity.  The most complex cases of hydrocephalus are sent to Miami Children’s Hospital for treatment based upon our neurosurgeons’ expertise in minimally invasive techniques such as endoscopic third ventriculostomy and endoscopic cyst fenestration.

In addition to their clinical expertise in pediatric neurosurgery, the Miami Children’s Hospital Division of Neurosurgery is pushing forward the frontiers of pediatric neurosurgery through its active research programs to improve care for children with neurological disorders.  Active clinical and translational research projects are ongoing to develop novel treatment approaches for pediatric brain tumors and head trauma and new surgical approaches for the treatment of epilepsy.

The expertise and success of our pediatric neurosurgeons, comprising of Doctors John RaghebSanjiv Bhatia and Toba Niazi along with the MCH Brain Institute program ensure that Miami Children's Hospital will remain at the forefront of pediatric neurosurgery  -- not only in South Florida, but also around the world.
