Nicklaus Children's Hospital, formerly Miami Children's Hospital, is blessed with many outstanding volunteers. Here you can meet a few of our dedicated Pharmacy volunteers.

Andrew Scheinberg
Andrew Scheinberg joined our Summer Teen Program last year. Having enjoyed his summer volunteer work, he later organized volunteer time at NCH around his school schedule so he could continue with our program. Once a week, Andrew reports to the pharmacy, where he enjoys the tasks assigned to him, and particularly likes working with the staff, where he has been made to feel part of the team. “The pharmacy provides a friendly atmosphere and makes me feel needed,” he comments.

Andrew, who has an identical twin, attends Gulliver Preparatory School, where he is involved in the National Honor Society and Health Interest Students of America. He would like to pursue a career in medicine, possibly as a psychiatrist. Andrew graduates this year and is focusing on colleges in Massachusetts and Pennsylvania.

In his leisure time, Andrew enjoys basketball, movies, and hanging out with his friends. We are fortunate to have such a committed teen in our Volunteer Program and look forward to Andrew being here every week.

Ivonne Guardo
Six years ago, volunteer Ivonne Guardo arrived in Miami from Cuba. She attended high school and college here, graduating with a bachelor's degree in chemistry. Ivonne was always interested in a career in pharmacology and made the decision to volunteer at Nicklaus Children's Hospital, formerly Miami Children's Hospital, both for the experience, and the opportunity to be near children.

Ivonne has found volunteering very rewarding. The staff in the Pharmacy have taught her a great deal and have been very patient in explaining their procedures. Ivonne assists with inventory, restocking, labeling, and computer inputting. The friendliness of the staff, as well as feeling needed and being part of the team, keeps Ivonne returning every week.

Presently, Ivonne is applying to Nova University to continue her studies in pharmacology. During her leisure time she enjoys reading and spending time with family and her 3-year-old daughter. We are very pleased to have Ivonne in our Volunteer Program and look forward to seeing her every Friday.
